(S12) David Biggs was born in North Carolina in the late 1780s or early 1790s. He appears in Arkansas in the 1820s trading with the Cherokee Indians. He married there to Martha Chisholm(I007) daughter of Ignatius Chisholm(I002) and part Cherokee. David followed the Cherokee to Indian Territory where he maintained a trading post at a place called Bayou Meanard. He returned to Arkansas by 1840 when he was enumerated in Washington County. By 1846, David settled in Cherokee County, Texas with his large family and two slaves. In 1852, he removed to California settling in Tulare County. No one knowns where or when he died, but many of his children came to San Luis Obispo County and some returned to the Indian Territory. I have not been able to link David to any of the NC Biggs families. It is said that David Biggs had a brother Benjamin that lived in Texas near San Antonio and ran a sheep ranch, but I have not been able to prove this. David & Martha (Chisholm) Biggs had issue: DeWitt Clinton Biggs, Mary Jane Heath; Margaret Johnson (lived in San Jose, CA); Benjamin "Bennett" Biggs; David Biggs; Jacquelina Biggs King; Christopher Columbus Biggs "CC or Bud"; John D. Biggs (SLO, CA); Narcissa Biggs See (SLO,CA).
