O alfabeto cherokee foi criado em 1821 pelo chefe Sequoyah para dotar de uma ortografia a língua do seu povo. É usado até hoje por quase todos os cheroqui ófonos letrados (5% a 15% de 22 500) e está disponível para diversas máquinas de escrever e computadores. Com base no tipo de letra (para diversas máquinas) criado por Joseph LoCicero IV, que segue escrupulosamente o tipo original e habitualmente usado, criei uma versäo sem serifas e sem grossos-e-finos. Na figura pode ver-se uma passagem da Bíblia (aquela do camelo e da agulha), composta em Times New Roman e no estilo habitual em Cherokee, em cima, e em Arial e com a fonte que agora apresento, em baixo. |
The alphabet cherokee was created in 1821 for the Sequoyah head to endow with an orthography the language of its people. He is used until today for almost all the Cherokee speaking scholars (5% 15% of 22 500) and is available for diverse typewriters and computers. On the basis of the type of letter (for diverse machines) created by Joseph LoCicero IV, that it follows the original and habitually used type scrupulously, I created a version without serifas and thick-and-fine.
