Ocicat Webring Yahoo Notes
My condolences for the confusion Yahoo! has caused. Hopefully this explanaition will clarify things.
The Web-Ring Organization chose to merge into
Yahoo! to take advantage of their larger and faster
computer network. This transition period may cause some growing pains, but the end
result will be more services and faster access.
Yahoo! made changes in the system, which generally made things less pleasant.
Eventually, Yahoo! threw in the towel and gave it back to Web-Ring.
Thing You Should Know
- It has become necessary to migrate your site informaiton from the Yahoo!
system to the new Web-Ring system. I have tried to do that for you all. Mostly that has worked.
If you want to check on whether it is complete or not, follow these steps:
- Go to Yahoo! and sign in under your Yahoo! id.
- Find the Migrate link (on the left side somewhere)
- Follow that link and the instructions they give.
- It may just say that your migration is complete. I'm not sure.
- It has become necessary to change your HTML fragment (again).
- The Web-Ring group has made this fairly painless.
- Signing in at http://d.webring.com/hub?ring=ociring
- Click "Manage Ring Sites"
- Find the line with the "Ocicat Ring" in the left column, and your site's title in the middle column.
- Click your site's title.
- Click on "Get Navigation Code"
- Copy the new navigation code and place it on your page.
- This will replace your old banner HTML fragment.
- This new NAVBAR code is a bit longer than the old Yahoo! code, but still way shorter than the original WebRing code.
The reason it is longer is so it will still work in browsers that have JavaScript turned off,
and in older browsers that just don't have JavaScript.
